St. Francis Xavier Church 2057 Cleveland Ave, Fort Myers, FL, United StatesMass for Law Enforcement and First Responders On September 29, 1934, a tradition of showing gratitude to emergency responders began when a Catholic priest from St. Patrick Church in Washington, D.C. organized the Catholic Police and Firemen’s Society. On that September day, over 1,000 police and firemen, dressed in their blue uniforms, attended a Mass that has since come to be known in churches across the country as the “Blue Mass”.
