Mass for Law Enforcement and First Responders

On September 29, 1934, a tradition of showing gratitude to emergency responders began when a Catholic priest from St. Patrick Church in Washington, D.C. organized the Catholic Police and Firemen’s Society. On that September day, over 1,000 police and firemen, dressed in their blue uniforms, attended a Mass that has since come to be known in churches across the country as the “Blue Mass”. Law enforcement, fire safety personnel and first responders from federal, state and local jurisdictions are honored during these services, which gives the community the opportunity to honor those who have fallen in the line of duty, as well as show our gratitude for those who serve so courageously.

St. Francis Xavier has served Fort Myers and SW Florida for over 100 years and is proud to be a part of this national tradition. We invite first responders of all faiths and our parishioners to join us in expressing our gratitude.

A light lunch reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
